Accomplishment is 80% psychology and 20% execution. When it comes to understanding the psychology of success, we must look to and strive to unleash the power of our subconscious mind in order to create habits that will lead to extreme growth. Willpower alone will not get you there because of the limits of our conscious mind. There are three main components to understanding and unleashing the 80% that lies in the power of our subconscious mind:
1) Auto Suggestion: This is the subconscious adoption of an idea that one has originated oneself through repetition and verbal statements to oneself in order to change behavior. Think about walking, eating and driving. These are all actions handled by the subconscious brain through auto suggestion. They happen without conscious thought. With enough repetition, we can transfer any desired actions from the conscious to the subconscious.
2) Habit: An acquired behavior pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary. Through auto suggestion, habits are formed like a river, it gets deeper and wider with ever drop.
3) Homeostasis: The tendency toward a relatively stable equilibrium between interdependent elements, especially as maintained by physiological processes. This is the power that resists change in your body and helps maintain stable body temperature, blood pressure, blood sugar, internal organ function etc. Once a habit is formed, whether good or bad, this powerful force will fight to keep it as the norm. You want to use this force to protect good habits.
Aristotle said, "Excellence is not an act, it's a habit." Understanding how the different components of your mind work together is 80% of the battle for accomplishment. The action item here is to apply clarity to your goals, and then unleash the power of your subconscious mind through the use of Auto Suggestion, Habits and Homeostasis. Intentions, paired with clarity, are the driving force behind setting goals that lead to tremendous results.
