In 2 Peter 1:5, the apostle Peter says, “For this very reason make every effort to add to your faith, goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.”
Dr. Michael Youssef describes the 7 areas from the verse above as a 7 story building. The foundation is your faith in Christ Jesus and each floor represents a necessary part of that relationship. Each floor must be strong in order to reinforce the others as well as the overall strength of the building.
The Bible is one of the ways that God communicates with us. It is the ultimate success manual that teaches us how to navigate through life and ultimately to the Father. My main take away from the verse above is that the 7 qualities are offered as a guide to wisdom and fulfillment in life. If you possess these qualities in increasing measure, you will be productive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. If not, you will be blind and miss out on all the joy and fulfillment. My prayer is that this verse will speak to you and encourage you to pursue these 7 qualities in increasing measure so that you may fully enjoy the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
