This past week the Swift Straw family lost a dear friend, Asa Swift Jr. At the young age of 26, he went peacefully in his sleep. After hearing many of his loved ones speak this past Friday, my hope in writing this is to celebrate his life and pass along a few of the messages that he would want you to hear.
Asa loved life, which revolved around his many loving relationships. He would encourage you to cherish the relationships that you have in a joyful way. He would encourage you to focus on the things that bring us together and forget about anything petty that may be keeping you from making the most of your life and each relationship that you have.
He was hyper competitive, mainly with himself. He wanted to squeeze every drop out of each day that he had. He wanted to push himself as far as he possibly could in order to become the best that he could be. He competed to see how much he could grow each day.
Asa was an ambassador for Jesus Christ. The Lord worked through Asa to save countless souls through his example and influence. Asa’s message to anyone who is unsure about their faith would be to “Get Off the Fence.” If you have not made the decision to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior then make that decision right now. You never know when your last day will be, so don’t delay the most important decision that you will ever make.
If you are already a believer, Asa would challenge you to never stop growing and learning and seeking biblical truth. Asa’s favorite Christian teacher was Ravi Zacharias. He would tell you to google his name, pick a video and let the Lord guide you down a journey of truth.
We will miss you brother Asa. Your legacy will live on and my prayer is that we will follow your example until we see you again.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
