This Labor Day I spent some time reflecting on the gift of work. I believe the ability to express ourselves through our work is one of the greatest gifts that we have on this earth. Here are a few quotes that encourage us to view our work as the gift that it truly is:
Martin Luther King said,"If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets as Michelangelo painted, or as Beethoven composed music or as Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the heavens and earth pause to say, "Here lives a great street sweeper that did his job well."
The Apostle Paul said in Colossians 3:23, "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.
Instead of viewing work as a means to generate a paycheck, we should view it as an expression of who we are as a person. The result of our work should tell the world about our character and integrity. It should show people what we are made of. We are ultimately compensated for the value that we offer the world, so increase the value that you offer by viewing your work as a gift and an opportunity to show what you are really made of.
