Rearrange Things

One of the greatest and most profitable things we can do in life is to use our imagination to rearrange old materials and ideas to create new combinations. Einstein once said, "I am enough of an artist to draw on my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world." Here are a few thoughts on creating new things with your imagination:

1) Opportunities are created when one looks at things as they currently are and then uses their imagination to rearrange them in a better way. This is the way that Thomas Edison looked at the lantern, Henry Ford looked at the horse, and Steve Jobs looked at a computer. They looked at what was generally accepted and then used their imagination to find a better way.

2) After someone has rearranged things into a new and better product, everyone always says, "How did no one think of that before?" Innovations are usually so simple and obvious that people always wonder why it took so long to get there. The answer is simple: someone finally looked at the same situation with a little imagination. Elon Musk used his imagination in looking at the car industry. Now, Tesla is making cost effective electric cars and selling direct to the consumer.

3) Human nature prompts all of us to advance our own self interests, whether we realize it or not. Imagination allows us to put ourselves in other people's shoes which gives us a keen insight into their motives. Once you understand someone's motives, you are in a position to come up with an offering that is better and clearly appeals to them.

It doesn't matter what industry or line of work you are in, there is opportunity if you can use your imagination to rearrange something old into something new and better. The only limitation that we have is that which exists in our mind.
