James (Jimmy) B. Williams, who served as Chairman of the Board and CEO at SunTrust Bank, once gave me one of the best pieces of advice I have ever received. He told me, "If you do exactly what you say you are going to do, exactly when you say you are going to do it, you separate yourself from 99% of people on earth.” While no one can be in the 1% club all the time, making a conscious effort to stay there can benefit you in all aspects of life. At Swift Straw, integrity is one of our core values which means we take DWSGD (doing what you say you’re going to do) very seriously. Here are a few ways we try to stay in the 1% club:
1) We commit cautiously, but follow through relentlessly.
2) We are careful about committing to things that could be impacted by something out of our control.
3) When a customer needs a commitment and we are unsure of an exact time, we try to give a broad time frame instead of an exact time. This gives them the comfort that they are a priority while also managing expectations.
Although it is a constant struggle to always DWSGD in a business with plenty of factors outside our control, we will remain committed to staying in the 1% club.
