One person's life on earth is relatively small compared with the many that have come before and the many that are yet to come. King Solomon said there is nothing new under the sun. This means that we are all subject to God's laws of the earth which will remain constant. Although the laws and principles of the earth are constant, a person's relationships and experiences are the two unique ingredients that make each person's life strikingly different than any that have come before and any that will follow. After reflecting on an amazing weekend spent at the farm with friends and family, here are some thoughts on how to enhance those two special ingredients:
1) As my Grandfather always says, "Keep the main thing the main thing." The most important relationship we have on earth is with our Heavenly Father. Get this one right first, and the rest will fall into place.
2) As Coach John Wooden said, "Make friendship a fine art." This goes for your family as well as friends. You will only get as much out of a friendship as you put in, so be intentional about pouring yourself into your friendships. The law of increasing returns will blow you away.
3) As my Dad always says, "Don't sweat the small stuff." This is very simple, but also very powerful. Both your relationships and experiences will be enhanced when you focus on the things that are important and let the other stuff go.
4) The best investment you can make is into a young child. Since they learn by example, don't tell them how they should live their life, just show them.
Anyone can easily find many reasons to be too busy to enjoy life's greatest blessings. When given the opportunity to enjoy unique relationships and to create unique experiences, take them... they're yours!
